The federal government neglects Long Covid – opinion

Protecting people from infection? That’s not what the government is about anymore. Anyone who allows so many infections must at least provide help and research on Long Covid.

The country will soon have a new infection protection law, at least that’s what you might think. After a tough struggle, Federal Ministers Karl Lauterbach (Health, SPD) and Marco Buschmann (Justice, FDP) have agreed on a draft law intended to help Germany through the next wave of the pandemic. There has been a lot of criticism of the draft, and most of it rightly so. It is unclear when which measures should take effect; much remains a matter for the states, for whose decisions there is then a lack of legal certainty; and the proposed privileges for the newly vaccinated and those who have recovered are as difficult to control as they are scientifically questionable.
