Recently it was unclear whether the date would be kept – but now the federal and state governments have announced: The nationwide 49-euro ticket will start on May 1st. What is still missing is the yes of the EU Commission.

The nationwide valid 49-euro ticket for local transport is to be introduced on May 1st. The federal and state governments agreed on this date, said the Transport Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Oliver Krischer. A federal and state working group had previously discussed the ticket. However, the EU Commission still has to approve the project.

It was decided last year that there should be a 49-euro ticket – but the start date was still unclear. Recently, some countries had criticized Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing for delaying the preparations. Wissing originally wanted to introduce the ticket at the turn of the year. The countries and the transport companies signaled that they were ready.
