The family of Mohamed, possible victim of an LBD shot, awaits a “loyal and objective” investigation

The relatives of Mohamed, who died on the night of Saturday to Sunday in Marseille, possibly the victim of a police LBD shot, await a “loyal and objective” investigation, without wanting to “controversy” around this “troubling and violent death”, explained their lawyers on Friday.

Meeting with the public prosecutor and the investigating judge

In a press release, Thierry Ospital and Frédéric Coffano, lawyers respectively for the companion and the mother of Mohamed Bendriss, explain that they met the public prosecutor of Marseille and the investigating judge in charge of the investigation and informed them of “their unwavering desire to know the perpetrators of this disturbing and violent death, within the framework of a fair and objective procedure”.

“To date, the civil party has no reason to think that it will be otherwise”, specify the lawyers, underlining however that the family “will remain, in this respect, of extreme vigilance”. She “seeks only and only truth and justice”, insists the text, and “she does not intend in any way to argue and bring accusations or anathemas against anyone”.

Mohamed Bendriss, 27, married, father of a child and whose widow is expecting a second child, lost his life on the night of Saturday to Sunday, after feeling unwell while riding a scooter in the heart of Marseille . The city was then shaken by violent riots in the wake of the death of Nahel in Nanterre during a roadside check, and a strongly reinforced police force had been deployed.

It was during his autopsy that the trace of what could be the impact of an LBD shot was spotted on his chest. The Marseille public prosecutor’s office considered it “probable” that his death was “caused by a violent shock to the chest caused by the firing of a projectile of the + Flash-Ball + type” and opened a judicial investigation for “fatal blows with use or threat of a weapon”. The judicial police and the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) were jointly seized of the investigation.
