The experimentation of the “Oui Pub” device soon to be launched in 13 cities

Tired of mailboxes cluttered with advertisements? To receive dozens of advertisements by default? In 15 territories, the “Oui Pub” system, which allows you to receive advertisements in your mailbox only if you have chosen it, will be tested from September 1, 2022, announces the Ministry of Ecological Transition. The distribution of unaddressed publicity material will then be prohibited, unless a “Oui Pub” sticker is visible on the mailbox.

Ahead of the entry into force of the ban, which replaces the “Stop Pub” scheme, a period of information for residents began on May 1, during which the stickers will be made available by local authorities, advertisers and distributors. More than 2 million inhabitants are concerned in the first 13 communities, including Grenoble-Alpes-Métropole, Bordeaux, the Métropole du Grand Nancy or the agglomeration of Agen, which will be joined by Troyes and Dunkirk on February 1, 2023.

Partial reworking of a proposal from the Citizens’ Climate Convention

At the end of the three-year test period, an evaluation committee will be set up “to assess the impact of the experiment on the production and treatment of paper waste, its consequences on employment, on the sectors of activity concerned, on consumer behavior, but also on the possible difficulties of generalizing such a measure”, added the ministry.

This experiment is the result of the Climate and Resilience law of 2021, which partially takes up the proposals of the Citizens’ Climate Convention. In terms of publicity suffered, the 150 citizens had proposed a total ban on the distribution of advertisements in letterboxes.
