The executive launches an unprecedented awareness campaign

A documentary, a fiction film and a major awareness campaign. The government will communicate from this Tuesday on sexual violence suffered by children. Every year, nearly 160,000 of them are victims. “I wanted to set up a campaign in Road Safety mode, to hit the stomach of our fellow citizens,” commented Tuesday on BFM TV/RMC Secretary of State for Children Charlotte Caubel. “This is the first time that a government has used the word incest in a campaign, the first time that it has spoken of this sexual violence within the family,” she told AFP.

This national operation begins Tuesday on social networks and media, before appearing in public places and cinemas. The spot will also be broadcast on Thursday September 21 on TF1 at half-time of the France-Namibia rugby world match. This was a recommendation from the Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence Against Children (Ciivise), associated with its design.

“One in ten adults have experienced incest”

“It is fundamental that through this campaign, the government says incest exists and it is a public problem, not a private one. Everyone’s temptation is to say to themselves that it doesn’t concern me, I don’t want to get involved in other people’s affairs,” comments Judge Edouard Durand, co-president of the Ciivise.

Incest, a long-taboo subject, is the theme of several films and books coming out this fall, including a TV film with Muriel Robin, “Les yeux grand verres”, broadcast on October 2 on TF1. In continuation of the #MeTooInceste wave, M6 is broadcasting on September 24 the documentary “Un silence si bois”, by actress Emmanuelle Béart, which gives a voice to adults, including herself, victims of incest in their childhood .

“One in ten adults have experienced incest, according to the associations, this means that every day you come across people who have experienced incest, and others who have committed it,” said the secretary of State. The last government campaign on child crime dates back to 2002 and did not mention incest.
