The Evreux public prosecutor’s office opens an investigation

It’s an almost unbearable video that shot on the social network Snapchat. It shows two teenagers mistreating kittens and appearing to kill one of them after throwing it against a tree. This Friday, the Evreux prosecutor’s office announced that it had opened an investigation. The public prosecutor of Evreux, Rémi Coutin, reacted to a report sent by the Stéphane Lamart association for the defense of animals which had seen this video.

“My floor received yesterday [jeudi] this description of the association. We immediately asked the gendarmerie services to open an investigation. The investigations have therefore just begun, and I am not in a position to confirm or not the content of the video in question, ”said Rémi Coutin. “I will communicate at the end of the investigation, once the legal consequences are known,” he added.

Two college students involved

According to the Stéphane Lamart association, the video broadcast on Snapchat shows “two young men, students in 4th grade in a college in the department of Eure, who could be identified thanks to the video, filming themselves killing kittens. »

“You can hear the filmmaker telling his comrade to aim well. We then see that the other young man is holding a kitten in his hand before throwing it violently against a tree. The kitten bounces against the tree and lands inert on the ground. The two individuals laugh when they see the body of the cat and leave it for dead at the foot of the tree, ”describes the association.

“Intolerable and cruel” behavior

A second kitten then appears to suffer a similar fate after being thrown “extremely high” into the air. “The two teenagers seem proud of themselves, and do not hesitate to post their videos on their Snapchat account”, is indignant in a press release the association Stéphane Lamart, which denounces “irresponsible, intolerable and cruel behavior”.

In parallel with the report made to the Evreux prosecutor’s office, she indicates that she has filed a complaint “against the two individuals for serious abuse and acts of cruelty which led to the death of these two poor kittens. »
