Will the Molières ceremony take place? The annual rewards of the theater are strongly compromised, AFP learned Tuesday from the organizers. Asked about information from Parisian according to which this ceremony will be canceled, the president of the organization, Jean-Marc Dumontet, replied that it was not certain.

“I have not yet announced that the Molières will not take place. I told Michel Field that I was going to insist. I am not in despair, he said. I still think we have to do the Molières. It is a strong political act ”. Michel Field is the culture and live entertainment director of France Télévisions, the traditional broadcaster of the ceremony.

“A priori, no Molières this year”

Asked by AFP, the head of France Televisions replied: “A priori, no Molières this year, but a big catch-up in 2022 with the year Molière” for the 400 years of the famous playwright. “We are focusing on Coups de théâtre”, a set of theatrical programs on the various public broadcasting channels, added the journalist.

The Molières ceremony traditionally takes place in the spring. It had been postponed in 2020 to June 23. The theaters have all been closed in France since the end of October due to the health crisis, but the big annual event, the Festival d’Avignon, is still planning an edition from July 5 to 25.
