The Disney Cruise Line is heading to Germany – these are the highlights

We accompany Simba through the African savannah in “The Lion King”, let ourselves be enchanted by Genie in “Aladdin” and admire the divine strength of “Hercules”. Yes, Disney makes us dream, no matter how young or old we are. And not just in numerous classic films, but also on board the Disney Cruise Line. For the first time this year, the shipping company with a certain magic factor is heading to the port of Hamburg.

The Disney Dream is coming to Hamburg in September, the stop is part of a seven-day trip from Southampton. Other stops in Europe include Rotterdam and Zeebrugge. In the summer of 2025, another Disney Cruise Line ship will be coming to Europe for the first time – the Disney Fantasy. From May to the end of July, the ship will head to European destinations from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean.

But the shipping company is receiving special attention this year for another reason: the new ship is leaving for the first time. The Disney Treasure impresses with new standards and an elaborate interior design. “The design concept of Disney Treasure is based on the courageous and heartwarming stories of beloved Disney characters,” Disney Cruise Line explains star upon request. The motto “Adventure” runs through and is considered a homage to Walt Disney’s legendary passion for travel and explorers.

Disney Cruise Line is building more ships

And the new ship is getting a sibling: On March 20, 2024, the keel of the Disney Destiny, the sister ship of the Disney Wish and the Disney Treasure, was laid at the Meyer Werft in Papenburg. The motto here is “Heroes and Villains”. “Disney Destiny will celebrate our most iconic Disney stories and characters and bring them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line star. Delivery is scheduled to take place next year.

With this expansion, the cult shipping company is responding to the growing cruise boom. Only recently, statistics from the industry association CLIA showed that the number of passengers in 2023 already exceeded the numbers from the pre-Corona year 2019. The industry expects 39.5 million passengers worldwide by 2027. The only downer: the climate crisis. Despite all efforts, cruising remains one of the most environmentally damaging travel industries. How does this work? Disney Cruise Line’s solution is: new technologies. This is intended to optimize fuel efficiency in the long term. But that’s still a thing of the future – and the magic on board is limited to the tangible film classics.
