The dirty laundry of fast fashion, the doc in 2 minutes on Saturday

In Bangladesh, the Covid-19 crisis has had disastrous consequences for garment factories. With customers no longer going to the stores, the major Western retailers no longer ordered goods from their foreign suppliers. Bangladeshi clothing factories, in debt, are unable to cope with the repercussions of the pandemic, and are forced to lay off a large part of their workers, who then fall into extreme precariousness.

This is the case of Jasmine, 24, who can no longer support her family or help her sick father. The factory in which she worked owes her more than three months’ salary. No longer able to pay her rent, she risks losing her home at any time. A social disaster that highlights the fragility of the fast fashion industry’s supply chain.
