No holiday is traditionally as important to Americans as Thanksgiving. They commemorate the landing of the Pilgrim Fathers in Massachusetts in 1621. For the indigenous people in the country, however, Thanksgiving is a day of mourning.

There are stories that have been told so often that almost everyone knows them. And there’s this old saying: History is made by the victors. The indigenous people of America, whom we once called “Indians,” have never been among the winners.
