The Court of Cassation rules out the ultimate recourse of the Balkany

Here it is, it is finished… The Court of Cassation put, this Wednesday, an end to the saga of the Balkany by rejecting their last recourse against their conviction for “aggravated money laundering of tax evasion”. Patrick and Isabelle Balkany are therefore definitively sentenced, respectively, to five and four years in prison in this section. A sentence that is in addition to the three years in prison which they had received in the section “tax fraud”.

However, the former right-wing barons of Hauts-de-Seine, now aged 72 and 73, should not find themselves behind bars. According to our information, Romain Dieudonné, their lawyer, plans to file a request soon for the two sanctions to be combined,
as the law allows. In doing so, the former elected officials could benefit from an arrangement under an electronic bracelet, a provision from which they already benefit in the “tax fraud” section.

At the head of the town hall of Levallois-Perret (Hauts-de-Seine) for decades, Isabelle and Patrick Balkany were found guilty of concealing from the tax authorities an estate valued precisely at 13,006,052 euros, in particular in two luxurious properties located in Marrakech (Morocco) and on the island of Saint-Martin in the West Indies.
