The compensation launched on Monday is equivalent to “a discount of 10 cents / liter” according to Gabriel Attal

Called “worker fuel allowance”, the new aid of 100 euros paid at once and intended for the most modest households, to which half of French tax households will be able to claim in 2023, will come into force on Monday. An aid system which “equivalent to a rebate of 10 cents per liter of fuel on the basis of 12,000 kilometers per year traveled on average for business trips”, boasted the Minister Delegate for Public Accounts Gabriel Attal during the presentation of this measure in a tax office in Nice.

The fuel allowance replaces the general rebate on fuel taxation, which expired at the end of December and will have cost the State 8 billion euros in 2022, i.e. “the equivalent of the budget of the Ministry of Justice”, had specified Gabriel Attal at the beginning of December. “The general rebate helped including French people who do not need their car to go to work (…), French people who have income which allows them to absorb inflation”, underlined the minister. “I prefer to help the liberal nurse who needs her Twingo to do her rounds rather than the very well-to-do family who takes their SUV for something else,” he pleaded.

10 million tax households concerned

The new aid applies to any type of vehicle, including two-wheelers and electric vehicles. It represents an envelope of around one billion euros, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne detailed last month. Set up from January 16 to February 28, this system allows, by sending a form, to obtain a transfer of 100 euros to their bank account from January 27 for the first files processed by the tax services. .

This bonus is limited to income from activity, with a ceiling set at 14,700 euros of reference tax income (RFR) per tax share, which concerns 10 million households in France. The Minister insisted on the ease of the process, which simply requires registering online, via a form on the site impots.gouv.fr, his civil status, the registration of his vehicle and his tax number. The process can also be done directly in the tax offices.
