The club unveils a statue of Sergio Aguero in front of the Etihad Stadium

Ten years ago to the day, Manchester City won the Premier League thanks to their 3-2 success against Queens Park Rangers, snatched by Sergio Agüero after added time. A unique moment in the history of the Skyblues, who had not been crowned champions of England since 1968. A moment which deserved to be engraved, not in marble, but in steel.

The club unveiled this Friday a statue in honor of the hero of the time, the top scorer in its history (260 achievements). The work was made in Philadelphia by sculptor Andy Scott, before crossing the Atlantic to land in front of Etihad Stadium. It represents the Argentinian, shirtless, at the time of the celebration of this iconic goal.

“I am very grateful to the club for having made this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It’s something very special, ”reacted the former striker in a press release. City also unveiled a limited-edition jersey to echo the tenth anniversary of the title, featuring “AGÜEROOOO” flocking and a 93:20 patch that recalls the minute the Argentinian scored that goal. Very nostalgic, these English. Or very strong in business, depending.
