This Sunday morning, a woman sounded the alarm in the town of Marguerittes, in the Gard,
relate Free noon. Her daughter and her group of friends suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, stomach aches and even a severe fever. She specifies that all were at the votive festival which is currently taking place in the city. This then causes concern when other participants start to experience the exact same symptoms. The hypothesis of a viral epidemic is then retained, alcohol is not responsible according to the whistleblower mother. “Some haven’t even had a drop of it,” she says.
Since Sunday July 25, comments have been pouring into the Facebook group “You’re from Marguerittes if …” and the questions multiply. While some denounce a relaxation of barrier gestures linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, others question the quality of the water.
The city indicates that the town is placed under surveillance and that it launched analyzes on Sunday in order to find the origin of this epidemic. A press release from Nîmes Métropole indicates that drinking water would not be in question, the hypothesis of a fulgurating gastroenteritis being able to be more conceivable. Further bacteriological analyzes were requested.
