The city of Aub advertises its monuments at a stock exchange – Bavaria

The little town of Aub in the district of Würzburg is taking an unusual approach in order to fill its empty historic houses with life again. At the Auber monument exchange, interested parties should be convinced on Sunday with an aid program.

It must be a delight to be able to live in the little town of Aub, located near the Tauber Valley in the Würzburg district. There’s a lot of good things to say about there. As you can hear, there is a friendly togetherness in Aub, the dreamy historic townscape is lovingly cared for, there is a rich cultural life and intact green areas. Many historically interesting buildings characterize the market square, the old town is entered as an ensemble in the Bavarian list of monuments.

Of course there are also problems in Aub. Like many small central towns in rural areas, the city complains about vacancies. They grew out of the loss of trade, crafts and gastronomy on the one hand and new development areas on the other.

The city is now looking for prospective buyers and users for some of its historic buildings – across Germany. In doing so, she is taking a completely new path, which one could casually paraphrase with the word “Auber monument exchange”.

Since August 2020, the city has been developing a municipal monument concept with the support of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation, the District Office and the Homeland Preservation. Potential buyers get every possible support. For example, the buildings are digitally surveyed, their building history is examined and a possible usage concept is coordinated in terms of monuments. At the end of the day, a buyer knows exactly what to do with the object realistically. “We want to take away the fear of interested parties that they are digging a million dollar grave here,” says the city planner Franz Ullrich.

Interested parties can visit the building next Sunday (from 1 p.m.) during the Auber spring market at the monument exchange and obtain information, including about funding opportunities. The kick-off event begins at 2 p.m. in the Renaissancehaus Marktplatz 19.
