The children’s wards in clinics are at their limit – opinion

It’s like gambling: maybe a place will become available. Maybe not. Maybe the baby with a heart defect can stay. Maybe not. Perhaps the boy with a brain tumor can be operated on today. Or maybe not. This is the frightening everyday life on German children’s wards at the moment. Due to a lack of care and years of underfunding in paediatrics, wards have to be closed and small patients have to be carted across the country for treatment. The children are our future? Not in the German healthcare system.
