“The business doesn’t run on idealism alone” – Munich

The potato combine in the west of Munich is the largest solidarity farm in Germany. A conversation with board members Daniel Überall and Jana Hohberger about growth, co-determination and the taste of the Chinese club.

It’s no longer just about potatoes in the potato combine. This week there are onions, carrots, lettuce, cauliflower, tomatoes, zucchini. More than 2,300 boxes leave the farm in Egenhofen in the Fürstenfeldbruck district every week. They are taken to stations throughout the city where cooperative members pick up their boxes. With currently more than 3,000 paying members, the potato combine in the west of Munich is the largest solidarity farm in Germany. The filmmaker Moritz Springer accompanied the development for nine years. His film “The Combine” can now be seen in cinemas. The two board members Daniel Überall and Jana Hohberger talk about the ups and downs of solidarity-based business.
