The BANFF Festival goes on tour through Bavaria – Munich with adventure and mountain films

Most adventurers want to go high, but these are drawn far down: two researchers want to explore the deepest cave in the Canadian province of British Columbia. To do this, they set off on an expedition lasting several days; it will be dark, muddy, wet – and above all, very narrow. For people with claustrophobia this could be difficult to bear, the rest can descend into increasingly narrow depths: The Canadian outdoor documentary “Subterranean” is one of the highlights of the BANFF Center Mountain Film Festival World Tour 2024.

A total of six short to medium-length films will be shown per screening. The festival, which is popular not only among mountain lovers, will tour throughout Bavaria and neighboring countries in the coming weeks and months. The premiere of this year’s program will take place on February 14th in the Alte Kongresshalle Munich – and is already sold out.

This film tour will stop in Munich several more times, including on March 4th and April 15th (also in the Alte Kongresshalle), and on April 14th the current BANFF program will also be shown in the Rio Filmpalast. In addition to the cave documentary, there is a film about a former footballer who discovered freestyle skiing (“Mustafa Ceylan”) or a documentary about the first ascent of a climbing route in southern France (“Reel Rock: DNA”). If all of this is too high for you, you should mark March 9th: that’s the day it comes International Ocean Film Tour to the Rio Filmpalast, with films on, above or below the surface of the sea.
