Two days after the use of 49.3 to vote on part of the 2024 budget, the text tabled by the RN failed to convince. This motion of censure should be followed by several others during the budgetary debates which will continue.
The National Rally’s motion of censure was rejected in the National Assembly on the night of Friday to Saturday. The first text defended by Marine Le Pen’s deputies received 89 votes. The second motion of censure, this time brought by Mathilde Panot of La France insoumise, must be voted on later in the night.
A 49.3 after less than a day of trading
These motions of censure responded to the Prime Minister who on Wednesday drew the cartridge of 49.3 on the first part of the 2024 budget. This constitutional provision, which allows a text to be adopted without a vote, was activated less than 24 hours after the start debates. No amendment could be examined out of the 5,200 tabled by the deputies.
“Stop your blabbering”
Last year, Élisabeth Borne had waited almost a week to go to the podium and unleash her first 49.3.
“Today, the observation is clear: no opposition group is ready to vote for this finance bill, but our country needs this budget”, justified this time the tenant of Matignon.
Without convincing. “Stop your blabla”, replied the RN deputy Jean-Philippe Tanguy, called to order by the President of the Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet.
A mess of motions of censure
“You have so much to lose,” said Mathilde Panot, the president of the rebellious deputies.
Élisabeth Borne is expected to face new motions of censure in the coming days. The use of 49.3 should increase to vote on the continuation of the 2024 finance bill and then the social security budget.
