IKEA Hack: the best ideas for bathroom furniture
Complicated dimensions, lack of light… The bathroom too often remains the unloved part of our interiors. In renovation as in new construction, it is not always easy to find furniture adapted to the configuration of the room and our decorative desires. One of the most common tricks is to divert furniture to arrange it.
Kitchen furniture is full of smart elements – especially when you dig into the iconic METOD kitchen from IKEA. To fully equip this bathroom with a neo-industrial look, we used the configurator offered by the site. We like the abundance of built-in storage, which allows you to maintain a minimalist atmosphere, and the choice of the concrete worktop, which accentuates the industrial style of the whole.
Rustic chic inspiration for this sage green bathroom! It’s the vanity unit that takes the spotlight. Combined with large gilded mirrors and vintage panoramic wallpaper, you’d almost be hard-pressed to recognize it, and yet: these are again elements borrowed from IKEA’s METOD kitchen series.
To create this vanity unit, METOD furniture was given a makeover in a slightly gray blue, which gives color to this bathroom with a very graphic black and white look. Combined with a large mirror, this element offers more generous storage space than most traditional bathroom furniture, making full use of the available space.
The Ekby Alex drawer shelf was originally designed to replace the console in a hallway or small entryway. This piece is in fact characterized by its shallow depth, which allows it to easily adapt to all spaces. Here it is cleverly diverted to create a make-up corner in the bathroom. To create this dressing table, we combined two Ekby Alex elements fixed side by side, and added a wooden top.
This suspended bathroom cabinet does not lack character. Its charming asset is of course the golden wood, which warms up this white and black bathroom. Does the covering of this piece of furniture remind you of anything? This is probably because it is made using a worktop found in the IKEA range of kitchen equipment.
Original, this metal and wood vanity unit with Mid Century accents! To make it, we pimped out the IKEA PS metal cabinet, chosen here in a light gray-green color, and the legs were cut in order to insert it into a wooden structure. This fresh and refined color enhances the essence of wood – and vice versa!
It’s not always easy to arrange the toilet area when it is integrated into the bathroom. One of the challenges is storing toilet paper to protect it from splashing water, because the toilet bowl is frequently installed in direct proximity to the bathtub or the key. In this small bathroom, we solved the problem by repurposing the TRONES shoe cabinet from IKEA.
This storage is designed to easily combine items. So you can adapt the idea, for example by creating a larger arrangement to store your bath towels – you just need to roll them rather than fold them.
IKEA Hacks: mini shelves, maximum functionality
Storage is one of the main problems when designing a functional bathroom. The solution is often to take advantage of the wall space – provided of course that you find shelves of suitable dimensions. And when this is not the case, we rely on the D system – or on an IKEA hack!
A lick of spray paint, and here is the BEKVÄM spice rack from IKEA transformed into custom storage for a collection of nail polishes.
Color is not your only option to spruce up the BEKVÄM spice rack! In the bohemian or vintage bathroom, we love canework. Available in rolls, the natural rattan cane is easy to cut and attach.
If the cane is easy to live with, it hardly appreciates the heat. We therefore avoid installing this type of shelf in direct proximity to the towel dryer!
Thanks to their mini format, BEKVÄM shelves are used here to optimize the door surface. The idea to steal: place it upside down, to accessorize it with S hooks.
Smart, this wall storage for the bathroom! Made using box spring slats, and equipped with S-shaped hooks, it can accommodate both towels and hanging storage.
This pretty ladder is actually a side upright found among the different elements of the IVAR storage solution. Customized using paint and equipped with hooks, here it is transformed into a storage and towel rack combo. Depending on your needs, you can also accessorize it with hooks and hanging storage.
