Thanks to Musiala – FC Bayern beat Darmstadt after falling behind

As of: March 16, 2024 7:14 p.m

After a few attempts, FC Bayern Munich finally achieved a clear victory against SV Darmstadt 98 in the Bundesliga. The Hessians were leading, but then some Bayern players shone. The record champions won 5:2 (2:1).

Darmstadt caught Bayern off guard when, after just under half an hour, Mathias Honsak fed Tim Skarke, who beat the Bayern keeper and new father Manuel Neuer from seven meters. Neuer’s wife Anika gave birth to a boy during the week.

Bayern turn the game around

But Munich turned the game around at halftime. Aleksandar Pavlović put the ball in the middle, which Harry Kane laid on for Jamal Musiala. Marcel Schuhen in the Darmstadt goal had no chance of defending. And then Kane did it himself: Joshua Kimmich also crossed from the baseline as he fell to the penalty spot, where the English striker came through strongly and scored his 31st goal of the season with his head (45th + 1). Just before Tobias Reichel’s half-time whistle, Oscar Vilhelmsson was unlucky when he hit the crossbar, where Neuer would have had no chance again.

Munich’s Pavlović out injured – international appearances not at risk

Neither SV coach Torsten Lieberknecht nor Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel swapped personnel for the second half of the game. However, this quickly became necessary after just a few minutes of play because first Darmstadt’s Christoph Klarer (who had already been treated in the first half of the game) had to be replaced due to an injury and then Pavlović had to come off the field after a hit to the head. Preliminary diagnosis: a bruised head and a laceration above his left eye – the 19-year-old, who was nominated for the German national team, watched the rest of the game from the bench. After the game, FC Bayern’s medical department gave the all-clear: Pavlović’s possible international appearances are not at risk.

Musiala, Musiala, Musiala – and then Gnabry

In the second half of the game, Musiala in particular continued to show off his outstanding ball skills: After a quick throw-in from Thomas Müller, the young star, who had found his form again, let five Darmstadt players out and finished down the right, and Schuhen was no longer able to deflect the ball decisively.

When the hapless Leroy Sané and Müller left the field and Mathis Tel and Serge Gnabry came into play, it took less than three minutes until the bell rang again in the Darmstadt box. Again decisively responsible: Bayern’s “42er”, Jamal Musiala. His dream pass in the penalty area into Gnabry’s path was excellently converted into the far corner.

“Once we found our rhythm, we created more chances”Musiala later said to the sports show, “I try to keep my fun even in the difficult phases. And now things are going well – and now I’m having more fun again than before.”

Bayern’s Musiala continues to work his magic – Kane is injured

And Musiala still really wanted to do magic this Saturday. When a lob from the left from an acute angle, the ball dripped onto the crossbar, Kane crashed his left leg into the right post while trying to follow up and tore up the goal net in the process. The result of this action: the ball wasn’t in the goal, but Kane was – and also injured. As a precaution, the captain of the English national team left the game.

“He sprained his ankle and had to ice his ankle. We still have to wait for an exact diagnosis. We hope that the moment of shock remains.”said Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel. According to Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, Kane will still travel to the English national team and be checked out by his medical examiner. “We are in close coordination. He won’t take any risks”said Freund and added: “We hope it’s not too bad and he’ll be back on the pitch soon.”

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, in the game for the Brit, stumbled to make it 5-1, Sebastian Polter on the Darmstadt side hit the left post – Neuer, however, was there for this action but did not intervene.

The final point is Darmstadt 98

Then Tel got on the scoresheet from close range after interacting with – you guessed it – Musiala. However, the hosts set the final point: Vilhelmsson used a cross from the left from Polter from a central position with his calf, giving the loyal Lilien fans a nice highlight.

Nico Herold, Sportschau, March 16, 2024 6:30 p.m

“It wasn’t so much about winning or losing today. Of course we would have liked to win the game”said Lieberknecht to the sports show after the game, “It was about the attitude, how we play. And that was a very important result today, which we presented well as Darmstadt 98.” And with a view to the Lilies staying in the league, who are in last place, six points behind the relegation place and twelve points behind the saver 15th place, Lieberknecht said: “Everything is still possible.”
