The furrow is traced and Thales wants to plow it. Fervently wishing to become a “world leader” in cybersecurity with a full range, the French technology and defense group has submitted an accepted offer to acquire the American company Imperva, valued at 3.6 billion dollars. It would be Thales’ biggest operation since the acquisition of French Gemalto in 2019.
The acquisition of this specialist in applications and APIs should bring Thales’s turnover in cybersecurity to 2.4 billion euros per year. “Imperva will strengthen the growth of Thales’s data security activities and allow the group to enter the buoyant application security market”, underlined the French group, which would also expand to the United States.

The closing of the transaction is expected to take place in early 2024, after obtaining regulatory approvals, including antitrust verification procedures, said the group’s press release.
Imperva posts more than 500 million dollars in sales over twelve rolling months in 2022 and more than 1,400 employees. Headquartered in San Mateo, California, the company has operations throughout the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

“The acquisition of Imperva marks a key step in Thales’s cybersecurity strategy. With this operation, we are taking on a new dimension in this market,” says Patrice Caine, CEO of the tricolor group.
This operation allows Thales to set new financial objectives for its defense and security branch. During the 2024-2027 period, the latter’s turnover should experience organic annual growth of 6 to 7% to reach a turnover of between 5.4 and 5.5 billion euros in 2027. Its operating margin should reach 16.5% the same year.
