Terrorist attack plan foiled in December has “links to Hamas”

The planned terrorist attack foiled by the police and intelligence services last December in Denmark has links to the Islamist movement Hamas, Danish police said on Friday.

Danish prosecutor Anders Larsson confirmed this lead during a hearing before the Court of Appeal in Copenhagen. As the procedure takes place behind closed doors, no further details have been communicated.

Three people arrested

Denmark announced on December 14 the arrest of three people as part of an investigation into a planned terrorist attack. Seven people in total are now suspected of being involved in this project.

Following the announcement of this police operation, in cooperation with the Danish intelligence services (PET), Israel declared that the suspects arrested in Denmark were acting “in the name of Hamas”. An accusation which was not then confirmed by the Danish authorities.

“The terrorist threat weighing on Denmark is unfortunately serious, but fortunately we have (…) competent and vigilant police and intelligence services who do everything in their power, every day, to ensure our security,” responded Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard, quoted by the Ritzau agency.
