Ter Stegen is out of the German national team’s friendly matches

Setback for DFB goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. The German number one has to pass for the last two test matches this year.

On Saturday the German national team will face Turkey in a friendly in Berlin. Three days later the duel with Austria awaits in Vienna. Both games will take place without goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. This was announced by national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

At the press conference on Friday evening he explained: “Marc André ter Stegen will be out for both games. He has acute back pain and will, as of now, return to Barcelona tomorrow morning because it makes no sense to stay here – or rather he cannot and cannot play can train.”

Nagelsmann continued: “He will not be able to stand between the posts and will hopefully be treated so well in Barcelona that he will be fit again as quickly as possible and can play well in the league games for Barcelona.”

Nagelsmann had nominated four goalkeepers

Nagelsmann still left it open who will be in goal for the 31-year-old ter Stegen. “I just spoke to Marc today at 4.30 p.m. We’ll wait for training and then make the decision together with the goalkeeper coach as to who will be in goal against Turkey,” said the 36-year-old.

In addition to ter Stegen, Nagelsmann had nominated three other goalkeepers instead of the usual two for the friendly double pack. Janis Blaswich from Leipzig will be there for the first time. Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp and Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann, who like Blaswich is still without an international match, are also in the squad.

After Manuel Neuer’s serious injury, Ter Stegen was recently promoted to number one in the DFB selection. Neuer is expected to rejoin the national team for the international matches in March.
