Tenor Jonathan Tetelman is the great hope of classical music fans – culture

In the TV commercial, tenor Jonathan Tetelman looks ten years younger than on the record cover, and on this late summer day in Berlin he looks even more youthful. But he likes the picture on the cover of his just-released album “The Great Puccini.” Maybe also because it takes him out of the circle of singer prejudices, in which tenors in particular don’t fare well. They are believed to have little intelligence and are seen as loud-mouthed machos with little character substance. In fact, Jonathan Tetelman hardly fulfills any of the expected tenor clichés. He is mentally alert, reflective, rooted in the present and yet dedicated to Italian opera with all his passion and heart.
