Laura Siegemund is playing with a new doubles partner in Melbourne. That doesn’t change their success.

Laura Siegemund is in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open with her new doubles partner Barbora Krejcikova. The German-Czech tennis duo won in Melbourne against the American Emma Navarro and the Russian Diana Schnaider 6:4, 6:0.

Siegemund had recently played together with the Russian Vera Swonarewa for a long time and won the WTA finals in Cancún, Mexico, in November. Since Swonarewa wanted to slow down a bit afterwards, Siegemund was looking for a new doubles partner and found her in Krejcikova.

The winner of seven Grand Slam doubles tournaments had previously separated from her partner Katerina Siniakova. Siniakova, together with the Australian Storm Hunter, is now Siegemund and Krejcikova’s next opponent.

“It’s an honor to be able to play with a player like Barbora. She has won almost everything in doubles. I think we complement each other well,” said Siegemund after advancing.
