Jule Niemeier celebrated the greatest success of her career at Wimbledon last year. This time she experiences a huge disappointment at the classic lawn. With that, all German ladies are out.

Jule Niemeier was eliminated in the second round at Wimbledon. The 23-year-old Dortmund lost in sunny London against Dalma Galfi from Hungary 6: 4, 6: 7 (5: 7), 1: 6 and showed a very poor performance.

In the previous year, Niemeier had reached the quarterfinals of the lawn classic, where she lost to Tatjana Maria in the German tennis duel. She made a total of 55 slight mistakes against Galfi and had to admit defeat against number 126 in the world after 2:37 hours.

The end also came for Tamara Korpatsch. The 28-year-old from Hamburg lost to Serbian Natalija Stevanovic 5: 7, 5: 7. The North German had actually already failed in the qualification, but as a so-called lucky loser she still managed to make it into the main draw. For the first time, Korpatsch reached the second round in one of the four Grand Slam tournaments.

Niemeier’s performance, on the other hand, is a disappointment. The Dortmund player was quickly a break behind against Galfi before winning four games in a row and still getting the first set after 41 minutes. But that didn’t give her security. In the second round, too, Niemeier made too many minor mistakes. She seemed unfocused, especially after Galfi fell early in the second set and needed treatment. Already in the first round, Niemeier’s opponent Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic had to seek medical help after a fall. “It’s never easy to play against someone who’s injured,” Niemeier said after the first round.

This was also true against Galfi. Niemeier fended off two set balls from the Hungarian before she lost the set in the tie-break. Now there was finally a break in the game of the Germans. Niemeier conceded a quick break in the deciding set and then practically gave up. Without much resistance, she lost the third round 1:6 and experienced the next disappointment in what has been a weak year so far.
