Alexander Zverev’s goal on the tennis tour is a Grand Slam title. It hasn’t worked out yet. There’s a reason for that, says tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

Tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou (53) is helping to hunt for the missing Grand Slam title Alexander Zverev identified an important factor.

“I think his transition from defense to offense is missing. He can hit winners from behind the baseline because he has the power. But he doesn’t do it right to take the ball earlier,” said the former longtime tennis coach Superstar Serena Williams of the German Press Agency: “I saw that years ago. It’s not a big deal. But it’s enough to stop him from winning a Grand Slam. But he can still make a lot of progress.”

In 2020, Zverev had reached his only Grand Slam final at the US Open, which he lost to Austrian Dominic Thiem. “I’m impressed by the dedication to the sport,” Mouratoglou said of Zverev’s qualities: “He has incredible mental qualities. I think he’s an incredible fighter. In all the matches and in his career, he’s one who never gives up .”

After failing in the third round at the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon, which has just ended, Hamburg’s Zverev starts this week in Bastad, Sweden. In the clay court tournament, the 26-year-old meets Alex Molcan from Slovakia in the first round.
