Revenge succeeded: tennis star Jannik Sinner led the Italian team to the Davis Cup final and inflicted two serious defeats on his rival Novak Djokovic.

The world number four first won his eagerly awaited singles duel against Grand Slam record winner Djokovic in Malaga with 6:2, 2:6, 7:5. Sinner then won the decisive point in the doubles alongside Lorenzo Sonego against the duo Djokovic/Miomir Kecmanovic with a score of 6:3, 6:4 for a 2-1 triumph over Serbia. In the final on Sunday in Malaga, Italy will face Australia, which beat outsiders Finland 2-0 on Friday.

Successful revenge

Six days after the final at the ATP Finals for the world’s best players, which Djokovic won against Sinner, both top stars once again offered some high-class tennis. This time the Italian had the better end for himself. At the start of the semi-final duel, Kecmanovic put the Serbian team in the lead with a 6:7 (7:9), 6:2, 6:1 against Lorenzo Musetti.

The German Davis Cup team missed the group stage of the traditional team competition due to a qualifying defeat against Switzerland at the beginning of February. In the relegation to hosts Bosnia-Herzegovina, captain Michael Kohlmann’s team managed to stay in the league.
