Tennis stars Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner led their Davis Cup teams to the semi-finals. First, Sinner, fourth in the world rankings, secured a 2-1 victory for his home country Italy with two wins in singles and doubles against the Netherlands.

Afterwards, Grand Slam record winner Djokovic secured Serbia’s decisive second point against Great Britain with a 6:4, 6:4 win against Cameron Norrie.
In the semi-finals in Malaga, Italy and Serbia will meet directly on Saturday. Just last Sunday, Sinner and Djokovic faced each other in the final of the ATP Finals – with the Serbian coming out on top. Finland and Australia qualified for the first semi-final on Friday.
Sinner initially managed to equalize 1-1 against the Netherlands with a 7:6 (7:3), 6:1 against Tallon Griekspoor. Shortly afterwards, the 22-year-old also stood in for Simone Bolelli in the doubles; together with Lorenzo Sonego, he defeated Griekspoor/Wesley Koolhof 6:3, 6:4.
The German Davis Cup team missed the group stage of the traditional team competition due to a qualifying defeat against Switzerland at the beginning of February. Captain Michael Kohlmann’s team managed to stay in the relegation game against hosts Bosnia-Herzegovina.
