That was a short interlude. After just four months, Boris Becker ended his collaboration with Holger Rune.

Tennis legend Boris Becker has ended his collaboration with the young Danish star Holger Rune after less than half a year.

“I would like to inform you that I will be stepping down as Holger Rune’s head coach with immediate effect,” Becker said on social media. He realized that he didn’t have the time to continue working successfully with the seventh in the world rankings. “Due to professional and private reasons, I cannot give Holger what he needs at the moment,” wrote the three-time Wimbledon winner.

Becker only took over the job as coach from Rune in October of last year and led the 20-year-old to the ATP finals in Turin. The 56-year-old was absent from the Australian Open at the beginning of this year because he was working as a TV expert for Eurosport. In Melbourne, Rune was looked after by long-time Roger Federer coach Severin Lüthi, from whom the Dane has since separated.

Before the short interlude with Rune, Becker worked very successfully as Novak Djokovic’s coach from 2013 to 2016. He then worked for the German Tennis Association.
