Alcaraz reaches quarterfinals at US Open for the third time

Carlos Alcaraz takes another step towards successfully defending his title at the US Open. After defeating the Italian tournament surprise, things are now getting harder.

defending champion Carlos Alcaraz hardly shows any weakness at the US Open and has reached the quarterfinals for the third time in a row. The 20-year-old Spaniard beat the Italian surprise Matteo Arnaldi 6: 3, 6: 3, 6: 4 in 1:57 hours without much effort.

Alcaraz could meet Alexander Zverev in the top eight. The tennis Olympic champion plays in the evening (local time) in the round of 16 against the Italian Jannik Sinner. Arnaldi was in New York in his third Grand Slam participation for the first time in the round of 16.

Alcaraz sovereign from the start

“The intensity was high from the first point to the last. I played a very solid match,” said Alcaraz. He competed against the world number 61. from the start and only conceded a break in the early stages of the third set with the roof closed at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The two-time Grand Slam title winner wore a tape bandage on his left thigh, but moved without any visible problems. He has had several injury problems this year. Alcaraz was eliminated in the quarterfinals on his debut at the Grand Slam tournament in New York in 2021 and triumphed last year
