Alexander Zverev has not yet qualified for the ATP finals. In order to be there in Turin, Zverev is now taking a detour. A competitor makes a mistake in Paris.

After his round of 16 exit at the Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy Alexander Zverev will serve at the ATP tournament in Sofia next week. The organizers announced this.

By registering for the tournament in the Bulgarian capital at short notice, Zverev (26) wants to protect his chances of taking part in the ATP finals from November 12th in Turin.

The Olympic tennis champion is currently in seventh place in the annual ranking. The eight best players of the season qualify for the event in Turin. But there are still two players in Dane Holger Rune and Alex de Minaur from Australia, who are coached by Boris Becker, who can overtake Zverev. The duo is still in action in the quarter-finals in Paris-Bercy.

Hubert Hurkacz is no longer a competitor for Zverev. The Pole lost his quarter-final in Paris against Hungarian Grigor Dimitrow 1:6, 6:4, 4:6 and can therefore no longer overtake Zverev in the ranking.
