Telephone scammers rip off couple from Vaterstetten – Ebersberg

Telephone scammers have struck again in the Ebersberg district and ripped off a pensioner couple from Vaterstetten. According to the police, the scammers tricked their victims into thinking that a relative had caused a fatal traffic accident. In order to avoid pre-trial detention, the provision of a high bail would be necessary. This would be picked up directly. Through skillful and hour-long conversations, the perpetrators actually managed to get the two seniors to hand over cash and jewelry with a five-digit total value. Only after the loot had been picked up was the fraud recognized and the real police notified.

In this context, the police again warn of the still current “fake police officer” scam and give tips on how potential victims can protect themselves from it. Healthy distrust is therefore not impolite. If the caller puts pressure on you, just hang up. “If a caller asks for money or other valuables from you: Discuss this with family members or other people close to you,” writes the police in a press release.
