Telephone call from Putin and Raisi: Moscow and Tehran want to work more closely together

Russia and Iran want to expand their relations. According to information from Moscow, this was agreed upon by Kremlin chief Putin and President Raisi. The focus of the cooperation should be on politics, trade and economy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi have agreed on closer cooperation between the two countries. Both presidents discussed a number of current issues during a phone call, the government in Moscow said.

The focus was on expanding cooperation in the areas of politics, trade and business – including the transport and logistics sector. The government did not say when Putin and Raisi spoke on the phone. Last Wednesday, a high-ranking Russian representative traveled to Tehran to coordinate with Iran in the fight against “Western interference”.

Arms deliveries to Moscow

Iran has good relations with Moscow and was recently criticized for supporting Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Kyiv and the West accuse the Russian military of using Iranian “Shahed” drones in its attacks on infrastructure. Russia denies using such drones.

About a week ago, however, Tehran admitted for the first time that it had also delivered combat drones to Moscow. The Islamic Republic made a limited number of drones available to Russia before the start of the war at the end of February, it said.

Tehran has denied further arms deliveries since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression and the provision of missiles. However, the Reuters news agency reported last month, citing top diplomats and high-ranking officials, that Iran had apparently promised Russia the delivery of ballistic missiles and other drones.
