On Boxing Day there was a quota duel between Maria Furtwängler as the “Tatort” commissioner and Florian Silbereisen as the “dream ship” captain. The thriller won – if only just barely.

It is the annual duel for the TV ratings: “Tatort” or “Traumschiff” – which format attracts more viewers in front of the TV screens on Boxing Day? The broadcaster ProSieben created additional competition this time with a Christmas special for its successful show “The Masked Singer”. Maria Furtwängler and Udo Lindenberg emerged as winners in the quota race with their Hamburg “crime scene”. 6.72 million people saw the “Everything Comes Back” case. This corresponds to a market share of 22.1 percent. For a “crime scene”, however, this is not an outstanding rate. The Munich case “Miracles are always there”, broadcast in the previous week, was seen by around nine million people.

The “crime scene” also benefited from the weakness of the “dream ship”. 5.76 million people watched the latest episode of the cruise ship that went to Sweden. This corresponds to a market share of 18.9 percent. In the previous two years, Florian Silbereisen, as captain Max Parger and his crew, attracted significantly more viewers in front of the TV screens. The ZDF series, which has been broadcast for 40 years, scored points with younger viewers of all people: 1.11 million of the 14- to 49-year-olds saw the “dream ship”. 1.03 million people in this age group opted for the “crime scene”.

“The Masked Singer” Christmas show is slacking

The ProSieben special “The Masked Singer – The Enigmatic Christmas Show” did well, but was not as successful as the classic editions. 1.92 million people watched the appearances of the three costumed stars. Presenter Steven Gätjen, singer Mickie Krause and musician Yvonne Catterfeld, who emerged from the show as the winner, hid under the masks.

Sat.1 had the US fantasy film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” in its program, which attracted 1.64 million people. RTL showed the animated film “Pets 2” and reached 1.20 million people.

On New Year’s there will be another quota duel between the public broadcasters: while ARD is showing a new “crime scene” from Stuttgart, the “dream ship” is setting sail again on ZDF. The goal this time is Namibia.
