The racism scandal surrounding a party video on Sylt is causing a stir nationwide. But racist slogans are also said to have been sung at a student party in a boarding school in Schleswig-Holstein.
According to the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education, pupils at a party in a Boarding school made racist comments. At the celebration on Thursday, underage students sang racist slogans to the tune of the more than 20-year-old party hit “L’amour toujours” by Gigi D’Agostino, the ministry said.
The teachers then called off the celebration and sent the students to bed. The ministry also ordered an investigation by the school inspectorate. The boarding school itself plans to comment on the incident on Monday.
“All students must be aware that singing such slogans is not a joke,” said Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU). Youthful exuberance or alcohol are no justification for racist chants. Prien fears further imitations: “Young people have always consciously broken social taboos.” It is therefore a task to talk to young people to make clear to them the significance of such chants.
In the run-up to the incident at the school party, a racist incident at Pentecost in a posh bar on Sylt had already sparked outrage across the country. In the short video, which was shared on social media, young people chant “Foreigners out” and “Germany for the Germans” along to Gigi D’Agostino’s song. State security is investigating. In recent months, there have been repeated incidents in which Nazi slogans were shouted along to the song – for example in Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
