In the future, Commissioner Faber will have to investigate the crime scene in Dortmund without his long-time colleague. The character Martina Bönisch dies in an intense episode finale.

Fans of the Dortmund “Tatort” thriller have to say goodbye to the investigator character Martina Bönisch. In the tenth year at the side of Commissioner Peter Faber, she died serial death in the new case on Sunday.

In the episode “Love me” of the ARD crime series, which was first broadcast on Sunday, the Dortmund chief inspector falls victim to targeted shots in the dramatic finale of a tragic case. She dies in the arms of Chief Inspector Faber.

After a total of 22 appearances in the role of tough chief inspector, actress Anna Schudt is saying goodbye to the investigative team from the Ruhr area and to the viewers, the WDR announced after the broadcast of her last appearance as Martina Bönisch. “Playing Martina Bönisch has taken a big place in my heart over the past ten years,” Schudt said in a statement. However, it was time to say goodbye. “For me, this creates space for something new, which I’m really looking forward to.”

“I’ve been wondering how it can go on without her. It is without question an important part of the Dortmund crime scene, »said the responsible WDR editor Frank Tönsmann of the German Press Agency. According to Tönsmann, Schudt approached him with the desire to break away from the “crime scene” and thus regain freedom in the selection of roles – even if this farewell was anything but easy for her.

Accordingly, the “Tatort” makers finally worked cautiously towards their serial death. Her departure also opened up the possibility of making more of the “hidden love affair” between Faber (Jörg Hartmann) and Bönisch, according to Tönsmann.

In fact, the characters had come closer and closer to each other in the past few weeks. In the new case “Love Me” both finally kiss for the first time. The very next day, however, they find themselves in a dangerous situation in order to save their kidnapped colleague Rosa Herzog (Stefanie Reinsperger). Shortly before the case is solved, it is initially Bönisch who saves the life of Faber by fatally shooting the main suspect. An act that his sister avenged with a fatal shot in Bönisch.
