Taha Bouhafs opens the door to his withdrawal from the legislative elections

While Fabien Roussel asked rebellious France to “review” the candidacy of the young man in the Rhône, the journalist split a long message on Twitter, confident “having acquired the certainty that in the eyes of some” , he “has no right to exist politically”.

Barely three days after the nomination of the candidates for the New Political, Ecological and Social Union, it’s time for the blues for Taha Bouhafs. The committed journalist who must present himself in the 14th district of the Rhône, could let go of the towel.

“I would have liked to hold on, I would have liked to make you proud. (…) Keep fighting. For my part, I tried but I can’t do it anymore”, says the 25-year-old young man in a press release published on its twitter account early Tuesday morning.

Communists want to “review” his candidacy

The candidacy of the one who had already presented himself in 2017 under the colors of rebellious France in Isère never ceases to make a stir. Fabien Roussel, the communist presidential candidate, asked Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party on Monday to “review” the candidacy of Taha Bouhafs to “create the conditions to win” in the constituency which includes Saint-Priest and Vénissieux.

The boss of the PCF – also invested by the NUPES – accuses him of having been sentenced for public insult in 2020, after having treated a police unionist “Arab service”. The journalist has since appealed.

“The certainty that in the eyes of many, I have no right to exist politically”

“For several weeks, I have been enduring an unprecedented storm of attacks. Every day, a new insult, a new slander, a new threat, a new accusation. if only to defend my dignity. I believe I have acquired the certainty that in the eyes of many, I have no right to exist politically”, analyzes the journalist again on his Twitter account.

“I will not lower my eyes, I will return each blow received a hundredfold” followed by the emoji “swords that cross iron”, he posted a few hours earlier on his account.

“I find it quite revealing that a young man from the Arab radical left who does not mince his words is reduced to that”, he explained to BFMTV.com last Friday, while acknowledging his “disgust and fatigue” around this case.

“Try not to derail the legislative elections”

Taha Bouhafs may also be paying the price for the political situation in the Rhône. The Communist Party supports the current mayor, Michèle Picard, on the spot. The latter considers itself the most legitimate to embody the left on this territory and did not hesitate to qualify the candidacy of the young man of 25 years of “parachuting”. On the side of the person concerned, we hardly taste these accusations.

“After losing the left in the presidential elections, try not to ruin the legislative ones too,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet.

The support of Philippe Poutou

The candidate received on this occasion the support of the figure of the NPA, Philippe Poutou. “There are applications that are disturbing, and that’s also why they must be supported!”, Said the Bordeaux elected official.

Taha Bouhafs saw in his possible entry into the National Assembly a “real political upheaval for millions of young people”.

“I don’t have the patent, I don’t have the baccalaureate. I did handling, cleaning. I experienced things in my flesh that not many people in the National Assembly understand” , he explained to us again at the end of last week, recalling “the absence of workers, racialized people and people from the suburbs”, on the benches of the Palais-Bourbon.
