SZ Sustainability Summit – Conversation with Jennifer Morgan – Economy

At the start of the sustainability summit of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, Deputy Editor-in-Chief Alexandra Föderl-Schmid and SZ Economic Director Marc Beise spoke with Jennifer Morgan, climate officer at the Federal Foreign Office. Follow the live stream.

Before taking on her current job, Jennifer Morgan had been at the helm of the environmental organization Greenpeace for six years. In March, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) hired her as special representative for international climate policy. The reactions were mixed – an environmental activist in the Foreign Office, which came as a surprise to many.

At the start of the SZ Sustainability Summit, they asked Deputy Editor-in-Chief Alexandra Föderl-Schmid and SZ Economics Director Marc Beise about their first months in office, Russia’s war against Ukraine and current developments in climate protection. How does she rate Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s so-called climate club, the results of the G-7 summit and the EU plans to phase out the internal combustion engine? Morgan was born in 1966 in the US state of New Jersey and has had both American and German citizenship for a few months.
