SZ podcast “Auf den Punkt” – news from October 6th, 2022 – media

Elon Musk wants to take over Twitter after all. After months of trying to wriggle out of the deal that had already been agreed. Twitter’s share price rose immediately after the announcement – but will it actually happen?

**SZ editor Andrian Kreye** says: One still cannot be sure whether Musk will not find a back door to get out of the deal. Should the takeover take place, however, Kreye expects Musk to want to enforce his “freedom of expression fundamentalism” on Twitter. That would mean that right-wing agitation and lies would be given more space again.

Musk already has a lot of power in the tech industry. A takeover of Twitter would increase this power even more: Twitter has become a forum that “can trigger a great deal”. The entire digital world is primarily male and white – that’s a big problem because it also affects tech products and the worldview of algorithms.
