Before class and during breaks, a Swiss teacher drank several bottles of champagne – and then drove home in the car. Her erratic driving style led to a police stop.

A 64-year-old teacher from the Switzerland caused a stir with her negligent behavior: The woman not only drank champagne before and during school, but also got behind the wheel of her car while heavily intoxicated. The Swiss woman was noticed by the police when she drove her car in serpentine lines on the way home from school and drove over a mobile traffic island. The officers then looked for her at her place of residence, “where they could find her in the driver’s seat on the forecourt.” This is reported by the “Aargauer Zeitung”.

Swiss police stopped her with over two per mille

At the time of the police stop she had already drunk two to three bottles of champagne. The breath alcohol test carried out on site came to the conclusion that the teacher had a blood alcohol level of 2.04. She also couldn’t show the police a driver’s license; she didn’t have it with her.

“Between lessons, during breaks, the accused consumed champagne, knowing that she would drive home after class,” says the penalty order issued against the Swiss music teacher. According to this, she stated that she had started drinking champagne at her home at 11 a.m. in the morning. She did this knowing that she would later drive her car to school and teach from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. She is said to have continued to drink during the breaks between lessons.

Teacher has to pay a fine of over 10,000 euros

A fine of 7,200 francs (the equivalent of around 7,500 euros) has now been issued against the teacher. She will be fined a further 3,131 francs for not carrying her driving license as well as administrative fees.
