A Somali man was caught at Zurich airport with a suitcase full of drugs. It is said to be 47 kilograms of khat leaves. It is the second case within a few days.

At the airport of In Zurich, a second man with suitcases full of drugs was stopped within a few days. The 37-year-old had 47 kilograms of khat with him, the cantonal police reported on Wednesday. The Somalian came from South Africa and wanted to fly on to London. Just last week, a suspected drug courier was arrested with a similar amount in Zurich. He also started in South Africa.

Khat is an intoxicating drug made by chewing the leaves of the Catha edulis plant. It is particularly widespread in East Africa and the Middle East. In Switzerland and Germany it is prohibited under the Narcotics Act. At the beginning of the year, two drug couriers were busted in Zurich with more than 100 kilograms of khat and escaped with fines.
