Florian Wellbrock successfully completed his first appearance at the swimming world championships, while silver winner Lukas Märtens surprisingly dropped out in the 800 meter freestyle heat.

Open water Olympic champion Wellbrock easily qualified for the final on Tuesday evening in Budapest as the second fastest. “It was rock solid. I thought we were going faster. Now I’m curious who else is in the final and then we’ll see, »said Wellbrock and was still hoping for his club colleague Märtens. But he experienced a burglary. “You could see that the tank was empty. There was really nothing more. I wanted to get to the final, but it wasn’t enough, »said the 20-year-old, who noticed the strain of his previous performances in the 400 meters and 200 meters freestyle. He won silver in the 400m on Saturday.

Lucas Matzerath finished fifth in the 50m breaststroke with a strong performance right at the start of the morning event. This qualified him for the semi-finals in the evening. “Starting the day with a personal best isn’t so bad,” said the 22-year-old.

Isabel Gose is in the semifinals over 200 meters freestyle. She was quite satisfied with ninth place. “The lead time under 1:58 minutes is quite good,” said the Magdeburg native.
