Sustainable building: an interview with architect Peter Haimerl – Bavaria

Peter Haimerl used to feel “physical pain” when he drove through the settlements in the Bavarian Forest. Today the architect is fighting to save old farmhouses in his homeland. A conversation about ugly villages, the dignity of houses and splinters of wood in your feet.

With the “Black House” in Krailling in Upper Bavaria and the two concert halls in Blaibach (Upper Palatinate) and Lichtenberg (Upper Franconia), Peter Haimerl, 61, has at least entered the history of Bavarian architecture. Its use for old buildings is less known. A conversation about beauty in Vorarlberg, physical pain in the face of destruction in Bavaria and the dignity of old houses.
