Sustainability: Greens call for waste reduction – Munich district

The Greens faction in the district council is committed to ensuring that the district of Munich makes the greatest possible effort to avoid waste. To this end, the district is to become a “zero waste community”. “The zero-waste approach corresponds to the action plan of the European Green Deal, with which the EU Commission defined the circular economy for a cleaner and competitive Europe,” says district councilor Helga Keller-Zenth from Oberschleißheim, co-author of the application. “Municipalities and counties play a crucial role in successful implementation.” The district should take the example of the state capital and quickly create “the conditions for reducing waste”. “Waste management is a mandatory task of the district. The costs for waste disposal are passed on to the waste prices,” says Oliver Seth, Green district councilor from Straßlach-Dingharting. “Therefore, the currently very high energy prices ensure that the costs of disposal are increasing.” So that the district population is not burdened too much, according to Seth, “we should ensure that we produce significantly less waste”.
