Former US President Donald Trump was again questioned about charges in New York on Thursday. It was about a $250 million financial fraud.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has accused Trump, three of his adult children and others of decades of collectively manipulating home values and his net worth to obtain cheap credit, tax and insurance benefits.
Trump: “Profitable and valuable company”
The former US president, who is seeking the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election, arrived for questioning at 10 a.m. local time and didn’t leave until just after 6 p.m. The survey took place behind closed doors. The content of the results was not initially known, and the focus of the talks remained unclear at first.
Some opponents and supporters of the former US President had gathered in front of the Attorney General’s office. Trump himself announced before the appointment that he could finally show “what a great, profitable and valuable company” he had built. One of his lawyers said Trump had nothing to hide.
Attorney General demands redress
With the case, set to go to court in October, Attorney General James wants the Trumps to pay $250 million in redress. Trump’s company denies the allegations.
In a previous questioning under oath last year, Trump refused to answer the questions more than 400 times. He only confirmed his name at the time. According to media reports, Trump is said to have made statements at the appointment yesterday.
An indictment has already been filed
The mood in the US regarding the legal prosecution of Trump is heated. He is being investigated for a number of possible offenses. Trump himself dismisses all cases as politically motivated actions. He wants to win the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election.
Last week, Trump became the first former US President to be criminally indicted. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg accused him of trying to increase his chances in the 2016 presidential election by paying hush money to two women, thereby violating election laws. He tried to disguise the payments with false entries in business documents.
