Suspected of theft, a man beaten to death by villagers

Here is the usually so peaceful village of Escarène (Alpes-Maritimes), located about twenty kilometers northeast of Nice, plunged into dread. Jérémy Dasylva, a 39-year-old man was beaten up there, lynched by several villagers and left for dead, reports nice morning. The facts date back to October 12, but the case is only coming out now.

According to the daily, the victim, aged 39 and recently customary in the village, was suspected of theft from a resident, chased by several of them and abandoned, lying at the level of the oil mill of the town. He was taken to hospital, where he died two days later.

The prosecution has opened an investigation which has been entrusted to the gendarmerie and one of the suspects has already been identified, but is on the run abroad.
