According to the police, the suspect was overpowered and arrested “with the use of firearms”. There are no indications of other perpetrators and there is no longer any danger for the population.
According to consistent media reports, a man near the central Würzburg Barbarossa Square had attacked several people with a knife. At least three people were killed and six others injured – some of them seriously. The perpetrator was stopped by a shot in the leg.
The police are on site with a large number. Areas in the city center are still blocked. Why the man attacked passers-by is still unclear; there are apparently no indications of a terrorist attack. As the Bavarian Radio found out from police circles, the man is said to be mentally ill.

Police ask for restraint on social media
The police appealed to the population not to publish videos and photos of the crime on social media. “Please respect the privacy of the victims!” The officials wrote on Twitter. Shortly after the event, the first videos were posted on social networks that were supposed to show what was happening.
Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann was expected in Würzburg that evening. He wants to get an idea of the situation on site.
