For many people, the smartphone is an indispensable part of everyday life. The younger the user, the more intensively the device is used – but not necessarily for making phone calls.

People in Germany spend a lot of time on their smartphones According to research, several hours a day. According to the representative survey commissioned by the digital association Bitkom, the average usage time across all age groups aged 16 and over is around 150 minutes per day.

For younger people, the usage time even adds up to over three hours, Bitkom said. According to the information, 1007 people in Germany aged 16 and over were interviewed for the study.

According to the report, 16 to 29 year olds average their daily smartphone time at 182 minutes. For 30 to 49 year olds it is still 158 minutes. The 50 to 64 year olds say that they spend an average of 148 minutes per day on their smartphone. For those over 65, the value drops to an average of 96 minutes. The time information is a self-assessment of the respondents, not an objectively measured value.

Cell phone keeps in touch with friends

The Bitkom survey shows how important apps and the web are when using smartphones. Because the cell phone is often not even used for voice calls. According to the study, respondents spend an average of 29 minutes per day making phone calls on their smartphones.
